There are times where training starts to feel harder than it used to. The weights don’t move the same, recovery takes longer, and energy can feel lower even when nothing else has changed.
For many men, this can be linked to testosterone levels.
Testosterone plays a key role in muscle growth, strength, recovery, energy, and motivation. As men get older, testosterone naturally begins to decline — usually gradually, but enough to impact how the body responds to training.
Lower testosterone can lead to:
• Reduced strength and muscle mass
• Slower recovery between sessions
• Increased fatigue
• Changes in motivation and drive
It can also affect how your body handles stress and sleep, both of which play a huge role in performance in and out of the gym.
This doesn’t mean training stops working. In fact, strength training becomes even more important to help maintain muscle, support hormone health, and keep your body functioning well.
What may need to change is your approach.
Instead of always pushing harder, it becomes about training with intent, allowing for proper recovery, and focusing on consistency over time.
The goal is still the same — to feel strong, capable, and confident.
